What are chemical peels?
Throughout your life there are many factors that impact the health of your skin including (but not limited to): sun damage, medication, stress, hormone changes, muscle movement, diet/environment, background/heritage, pollution, cosmetics, and pre/post pregnancy. All of these factors can lead to a loss in collagen, loss of elasticity, skin roughness, fine lines and wrinkles, acne & scarring, and pigmentation irregularities.
Chemical peeling is the use of acidic substances to carefully remove the outermost layer of the skin. This is designed to give your skin a fresh start and help reboot the health of your skin in a minimally invasive way.

How do I know if a chemical peel is for me?
A chemical peel, especially a medical grade one such as VI Peel®, not only reduces the damage that your skin has gone through but also helps prevent further damage with proper skincare. It can be really hard to give your skin the fresh start that it needs. Chemical peels are designed to shed the outer layer of your skin, which means that it becomes easier for your skin to heal and reboot. If the peel is followed up with proper skincare results can be very long-lasting and prevent future damage.
Chemical peels are suitable for various skin types and can be used on areas of the face and body. Results on the face can be seen in as little as 7 days and on the body as little as 10 days.
Chemical peels can be combined with Botox® (the day before), dermal fillers (the day of), and/or microneedling (4 weeks after) for even more rejuvenating results.

What can you expect during treatment?
Treatment is performed in the privacy and comfort of Alea Aesthetics Medical Spa and administered by a Board Certified nurse practitioner.
Procedure takes about 30min
You will experience slight redness and irritation
You will receive a post-peel care kit
Peeling will begin on about Day 3 for facial areas and Day 6 for other areas
Downtime
Downtime for peels is minimal. Peeling for the facial area is seen during Days 3-7 and for body areas during Days 6-10. You will receive rigorous post-peel instructions. It is essential that you avoid intense exercise, saunas, hot water and direct sun exposure for 3-4 days after the peel has been applied.
How long does the treatment last?
Your skin will show results after about 1 week and will continue to improve with proper skin care regimen. We recommend doing about 3 peels spaced 4-6 weeks apart for serious cases and a maintenance peel seasonally.

who is a candidate?
Both men and women over the age of 18 (or younger with parental consent) can be candidates for the treatments described above.
chemical peels contraindications:
-Pregnant/breastfeeding
-Undergoing chemotherapy/radiation within the past 6 months
-Accutane® or Isotretinoin within the past 6 months
-Autoimmune disorders (check with physician)
-Aspirin allergy
-Phenol or hydroquinone allergy
-Inflamed skin with open wounds
-Active cold sores or history of Herpes Simplex
-Liver conditions
